A Daughter's Promise

© Allie B. Quaglieri
Every time that I smile,
Every time that I sigh,
I think of your face,
And a tear escapes my eye.

You were my world,
My inspiration and my heart,
But when you left me,
I thought I would fall apart.

You were my best friend,
My one true 'confidante',
And that's not all you were,
You were also my mom.

I didn't want to live without you,
But you would have wanted me to,
And if there's anyone I want to make happy,
That anyone is you

I would have given anything to have you back,
But I know now that it was meant to be,
For you are still watching from up there,
And I know you're watching me.

When God set the world in place,
when He hung the stars up in space,
when He made the land and the sea,
then He made you and me.

He sat back and saw all that was good,
He saw things to be as they should.
Just one more blessing He had in store;
He created a mother, but whatever for?

He knew a mother would have a special place
to shine His reflection on her child's face.
A mother will walk the extra mile
just to see her children smile.

She'll work her fingers to the bone
to make a house into a home.
A mother is there to teach and guide,
a mother will stay right by your side.

She'll be there through your pain and strife,
she'll stay constant in your life.
A mother will lend a helping hand
until you have the strength to stand.

She'll pick you up when you are down,
when you need a friend she'll stick around.
A mother is one who listens well,
will keep her word; will never tell.

A mother never pokes or pries
but stands quietly by your side,
giving you the strength you need,
encouraging you to succeed.

A mother is one who can be strong
when you need someone to lean on.
You're more than a mother to me;
a reflection of Him in your face I see,
a love that knows no boundaries.

I'm glad that you chose to be
all this and more to me.
You share a love that knows no end,
you're more than my mother,
you are my friend.

It is with deep sadness that I learn of the death of my dear friend and co-worker of mine from 1986 when we worked together at Morton Terrace. I learned a lot from Joyce since I was not certified yet as an aide. When I had to hunt Joyce down and tell her a certain resident was deceased she showed me the proper way of handling things. She also was a great comfort to me when my step-son drowned at Glen Oak Park Lagoon in Peoria. I had already left Morton Terrace by the time my step-son passed. Everyone I had worked with signed a condolence card and mailed it to me. Her name was the one that was written the biggest.  My condolences are with Joyce's family in there time of need. I will be looking up to heaven and will see Joyce waving at us all.

What can you say about a sister who was nothing less than wonderful, loving and caring to all that she met.  She was a sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to a whole bunch of people.  She was like a piece of a puzzle and not just any piece, she was more than a corner piece, she was the piece in the middle that made it complete.  The puzzle that makes up the Hankins family will forever be incomplete, but the love that those of us have for each other will continue to hold us together .  Joyce had more love and compassion for everyone than most anyone.  She will forever live because I know she was a firm believer in our lord and Savior Jesus Christ and she will always be alive in my heart.

The Lord saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put his arms around you
and whispered, "Come with me"

With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
A beautiful smile at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.

It's lonesome here without you
We miss you so each day,
Our lives aren't the same
Since you went away.

When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
"Cheer up and carry on."

Each time we see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
"Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping,
We'll meet again someday."

Jennifer Little Butterfly June 5, 2010
Today a little butterfly flew by me.
I thought to myself where have you been little butterfly.
You come into this world as a cocoon all by yourself and blossom into
this beautiful butterfly and fly off to see the world.
What you don’t realize little butterfly as you flutter through your days
is how you touch those around you in your soft gentle way.
You don’t even realize the wonder and awe you create around you.
she fluttered her wings toward me as if she was waving good-by as she
headed towards the horizon.
She looked very happy and content as she went on her way, as if to say
to me “Don’t worry I’ll be okay”.
I was sad to see her go for she had touched my heart in such a way that
I knew my life would never be the same.
She had left an imprint of all the beauty life has to offer.
I knew each time I looked at another butterfly or horizon I would
remember our moment in time when it was only her and I.
I knew I would be a better person all because this little butterfly flew by
me one bright sunny day.

Kayla God's Garden June 5, 2010

God looked around his garden and he found an empty place. He then looked down upon this Earth, and saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you and lefted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain, he also knew in Heaven you would never hurt again.

He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered, "Peace be thine"

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you. The day God called you home.

If tears could build a staircase, and memories a lane. We'd walk all the way to heaven, and bring you home again.

with all my love for my family and close friends to this wonderful woman.....R.I.P Joyce Spradlin
